A GRIEVING family has launched a campaign to get a crossing installed in the same road where a ten-year-old boy was killed.
Promising footballer Callum Henry died when he was knocked off his bike as he rode along Farnborough Road, in Castle Vale.
The youngster, who had just started as a Year 6 pupil at Topcliffe Primary School, suffered a heart attack at the scene on Wednesday, September 21.
His devastated parents, Deborah Henry and Martin Roberts, made the painful decision for his life support machine to be switched off at Birmingham Children’s Hospital the next day.
Now, Callum’s uncle Matthew Henry, who lives a minute from Callum’s parents, said he, together with his brother Andrew, his partner Tammy and his sister Laura, have started a petition to have a pedestrian crossing installed.
Mr Henry, a 26-year-old school data manager, told how the local community were supporting the family as they try to come to terms with their tragedy.
He said: “It’s very dangerous. We are trying to get a pedestrian crossing installed where he was knocked over and some more crossings around the estate.
“There are traffic calming measures around the site but they are not enough.
“The two local councillors have been very supportive.”
