A BIRMINGHAM father-of-two has died after being beaten over the head with a metal bar and robbed of his delivery van for “just a few mobile phones”.
Police launched a murder inquiry after Ali Jawaid, aged 43, from Ward End, lost his fight for life at about 3pm on Tuesday.
Two men were last night being quizzed in connection with his death after one was arrested on Tuesday and one was detained yesterday.
Mr Jawaid was attacked as he made a delivery in Sewell Highway, in Wyken, Coventry, at about 6.30pm on November 9.
He had parked his van, which contained a number of phones, outside Benzer Communications when he was jumped.
West Midlands Police said he had been in an induced coma since the incident but his “condition deteriorated rapidly” and he died with his family understood to have been at his bedside.
Det Chief Insp Matt Markham said: “Mr Jawaid was a married father of two young children who was going about his business when he was viciously attacked by a group of men, all for just a few mobile phones.
