SHOCKED drivers were held up by a plane in the middle of Coventry Road near Birmingham Airport on Friday.
The small single engine two-seater brought traffic to a brief standstill when it was rolled out of the old airport entrance onto the A45 at around 9.30am.
George Lovatt snapped a picture of the plane as he travelled towards Coventry on the busy road.
The 70-year-old HGV instructor from Coleshill said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“We do see some strange things travelling around in this job.
“But you don’t expect to see a plane in the middle of such a busy road.
“At first I thought it may have crashed, or got lost – but I think it was just being transported.
“All I know is that it briefly held up the traffic and closed off the old airport entrance.
“It was a bit of a surprise.
“But once you got up close you could see that it had lots of police escorting it and looked like it was being moved on a trailer.”
