Dough is rolling in for kind-hearted Dominic Harris

Dominic Harris

A YOUNGSTER'S ambition to help starving orphans in Africa has touched the public's heart-strings, and cash is flooding in.

Since the Birmingham Mail featured Dudley fundraiser Dominic Harris, aged eight, a month ago, people from across the Midlands have been pledging their support.

Dominic had initially collected about £25 to help children at the Word Alive Orphanage, in Ghana.

Since his story appeared in the Mail, Dominic has seen his fund swell to more £100.

"I hope they're smiling now, Mom," he said to his mother Louise, of Taylor Road, Netherton, Dudley. Mail readers have been sending in donations to encourage Dominic.

Maureen Richardson, of Queslett Road, Great Barr, and her daughter Lesley Ashford, of Lindens Drive, in Streetly, called at Dominic's church in Blackheath, with £14 in coppers.

Mrs Richardson said: "It's lovely someone so young can be moved to help others."

Readers Katie and Len, from Birmingham, sent him a birthday card and £5, and wrote: "What a special boy you are. We are so proud of you."

Another reader in Warley sent 20p coins, followed by a £5 note.

She wrote: "I am sending my very best wishes that you raise your first £100 quickly. It is a very good cause."
