Warning after OAP victim of conmen

BC POLICE are warning people in the Walsall area to be on their guard following a distraction burglary.

Three men called at an address on Ely Road in Alumwell, Walsall, at approximately 10.30am on Friday morning and claimed to be calling on behalf of the Water Board.

They then forced their way into the elderly man's property and stole cash.

The three offenders are described as being white and in their early 20s.

The first offender was 6ft tall, of a thin build, clean shaven with dirty blond hair. He was wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, a brown jacket and dark shoes.

The second man was 5ft 8 in to 5ft 9 in, of medium build and clean shaven with brown hair and was wearing a white shirt. The third offender was 5ft 8in and in his early 20s.

Det Con Claire Walker, from Walsall police station, said: "We urge people not to allow anyone into their home without verifying where they are from, and to always ask for identifi-cation.

"Remember, there is no such thing as the 'water board' any more."

DC Walker added: "We urge people to contact their utility companies such as water, gas and electricity suppliers, and set up a password scheme so they can identify genuine callers. Also, do not keep large quantities of cash in your home." * Anyone with information is asked to call CID on 0845 113 5000.
