Hit-run clue to body in Walsall road

A MAN found dead may have been the victim of a hit-and-run driver, it was revealed today.

The body of the 51-year-old man was found in Broadway West, Walsall, at 5.50am yesterday.

Police are now seeking the driver of a dark-coloured car seen in the area around the time the man's body was discovered.

It is believed to have been travelling in the direction of Wednesbury Road.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said that officers were looking into whether the man's fatal injuries may have been the result of a road traffic collision. "A dark-coloured car was seen in the area around the time and officers are keen to establish whether this may be involved," added the spokesman.

Broadway West was closed between West Bromwich Road and Bescot Crescent for most of the day, but was reopened at 7pm yesterday.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Broadway West between 5.30am and 6am yesterday.

A 31-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene after an accident with a car at about 9pm on Sunday in Princess Grove, West Bromwich.

The car, a red Rover, is believed to have left the road and smashed into fence panels at the side of the road before striking the woman.

It is believed the dead woman, who has not been named, was visiting her boyfriend.

The woman's body remained underneath the car until a crane could remove the vehicle at around 1am yesterday.

The driver, a man, is believed to live in the street.
