Mum charged over tot tragedy

A YOUNG mother whose toddler son was run over and killed in a road accident has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Victoria Ann Dobson, 23, of Poole Crescent, Coseley, is to appear in court at the end of the month following the death of 21-month-old Sean James Dobson-Purchase.

And today it was revealed her boyfriend, Andrew McGregor, 29, has also been charged in connection with the tragedy, which happened at about 9pm on September 21 last year.

McGregor, who had known Miss Dobson for a couple of months after she split from Sean's father, has been charged with driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and perverting the course of justice.

They answered police bail yesterday afternoon when the charges were put to them. They have been bailed to appear at Dudley magistrates court on March 28.

Sean suffered multiple injuries when a vehicle ran over him in Poole Crescent.

He was rushed to New Cross Hospital with injuries including lacerations to his liver and doctors were unable to save him.

Sean's grandfather Phil Dobson said after the tragedy that the family had been devastated by the loss of Sean.

Mr Dobson, a gardener from Low Hill, Wolverhampton, said that Sean never stopped laughing.

Mr Dobson said he still had Sean's tiny shoes and socks and even a lollipop he had been sucking just before tragedy struck.

A police spokesman said today: "We were told initially that the toddler had wandered into the road and been run over by a car.

"Obviously extensive investigations have been carried out since then and these charges are the result of our inquiries.

"It would not be right to say any more at this stage."
