Body of teenage girl found in Wolverhampton field

A police guard over the scene where the girl's body was found in Wednesfield.

A TEENAGE girl was found dead in a field near Wolverhampton today, and police said they were treating it as "suspicious".

The body of the girl, aged 18 or 19, was discovered in a field off Lichfield Road, Wednesfield, before dawn. Police sealed off the area after the grim discovery and were carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area.

Forensic experts were also at the scene as detectives tried to piece together how the girl died.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said that crews were called to the field, near Moat House Lane East, at about 5.25am. "We found the body of a girl, aged about 18 or 19.

"She was already dead when we arrived on scene and there was nothing we could do.

"We left the incident in the hands of the police, who are treating the death as suspicious," he added.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said that police inquiries were on-going.

"We are not in a position to reveal too many details at the moment and will release more information later.

"What we can say is that police were called to Lichfield Road shortly before 5.30am following reports of the discovery of the body of a young female.

"The incident is being treated as suspicious at this stage and we are appealing for further information.

"Anyone who can help the investigation in any way is asked to contact police officers at Wednesfield on 0845 1135000," the spokesman added.
