Oldbury mum badly hurt in crash with a van

A MOTHER-of-two was seriously injured when her car crashed with a van.

An accident involving the Renault - carrying the woman and her two young daughters - and a white Transit happened on Bleak House Road, Oldbury, at around 9.30 last night, with one of the vehicles hitting a direction bollard.

Nearby residents were able to get the girls out of the car but their mum, in her late 20s, was left trapped until firefighters arrived to cut off the door and roof to free her.

She suffered suspected spinal injuries and was rushed to City Hospital, in Birmingham, for treatment. Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

One of the girls, aged about six, suffered minor leg and head injuries while her sister, aged about seven, suffered a minor leg injury.

The driver of the van was not hurt.

The road was closed for just over an hour while the area was cleared.
