Driver dies in collision with prom party limo in Aldridge

Residents today demanded traffic calming measures at the spot. They said they were woken by loud bang at about 1.25am and looked on as worried friends and parents arrived at the scene.

John and June Kelly, aged 76 and 75 respectively, said they were sickened by the sight of the carnage.

Debris had been flung at least 30 yards onto their doorstep by the impact of the crash.

Mr Kelly said: “A crash happened here before, five years ago. A driver didn’t negotiate the bend, ploughed through trees and finished up six inches away from our neighbour’s bay window.

“I would appreciate some speed bumps along here.”

Another neighbour, 33-year-old John Adams, said: “We have real trouble pulling on and off the drive, and it’s quite a narrow road.

“There isn’t an obviously bad bend but there are a couple of blind corners.”

Sgt Ian Bradin, of Walsall police, said the Golf was travelling towards Aldridge, while the Bentley was going the opposite way.

The road was closed until 7am on Saturday while a police collision investigation team worked at the scene.

He appealed for witnesses and said anyone with information should call the road policing unit at Walsall on 0845 113 5000.
