Man dies after Bilston shooting

A MAN was gunned down and killed today outside a Midland sports bar.

The unnamed victim, believed to be in his 40s, was shot outside Gavins Sports Bar in The Orchard, Bilston, Wolverhampton, at around midnight.

A police officer started first aid at the scene and paramedics kept up the fight to save the victim’s life as he was taken to the city’s New Cross Hospital. But he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The road and surrounding areas were today sealed off.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance staff took over treatment of the patient from a police officer at the scene.

“They continued working on the man as the ambulance travelled to New Cross Hospital.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of ambulance staff and the early intervention of the police officer, it was not possible to save the man and he was confirmed dead on arrival.”

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “A man in his 40s was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He is not being named at this stage. The Orchard and roads nearby remain closed this morning while police inquiries continue.”
