Dudley teacher in swearing row told he can teach again

Peter Glover

A teacher struck off for swearing at his students broke down in tears after he was told he could return after two years away from the classroom.

Peter Glover denied the allegations but said his wife and two children had left him and the community turned its back on him as a result of them.

The unemployed 41-year-old, was made the subject of the prohibition order after he was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct while he was assistant head teacher at Dormston School, in Dudley.

Mr Glover was said to have sworn at students and coerced a pupil of the school to sign a false statement about the incident, in 2004. He was also said to have failed to maintain a valid public entertainments licence for the Dormston Centre, a sports and arts venue attached to the school.

The decision by the General Teaching Council, meeting in Birmingham yesterday, will see him start working as an agency drama teacher while looking for a full-time position.

Speaking after the hearing, he said: “This is the end of a nightmare. I lost my profession and I’d been doing very well, the community turned its back on me, my wife left me and I lost my kids and my home.”

During the hearing, Mr Glover defended himself against the findings made in his absence. He said he had been unable to attend because his father had died from stomach cancer weeks before and his marriage was falling apart.
