Beverley Knight bursts into tears on stage at Symphony Hall

Beverley Knight

ANGUISHED soul star Beverley Knight broke down on stage in Birmingham as she paid an emotional tribute to her “fantastic” family.

The Wolverhampton-born singer has referred to undisclosed personal difficulties on the microblogging site Twitter.

And she was visibly shaken and wept as she addressed the audience half way through a storming show at Symphony Hall last night.

It was a family affair as Beverley, aged 36, thanked her mother Dolores, her sister and brother – who were all in the stalls – as well as her uncle and cousins as she prepared to sing Gold, one of her early career singles.

As tears rolled own her face, the singer, nearing the end of a 17-date British tour to promote her new album 100%, told the concerned audience: “This goes out to my fantastic family who are the greatest network of support.”

Beverley, immaculately styled in a short dress of silver and black, just one of several stunning costume changes, repeatedly wiped her tears with a towel, adding: “I know my make-up’s running. Just ignore it!”

She went on to perform the exquisite song to warms cries of “Go Bev!” from her many supporters.

On previous Twitter entries, the triple MOBO-winning star has written: “Got a bit of a personal crisis going on.”

She has also told her fans and friends: “My luvs, thank you all for caring. My family and I are going through the wringer just now, but we’ll get to the other side.”

The emotion of the night gave an added poignancy to Beverley’s performance of Soul Survivor, one of the stand-out tracks from 100%.
