DOZENS of firerfighters were this afternoon tackling a huge blaze at a carpet firm in Walsall.

The fire broke out at the Carpet Warehouse in Bescot Crescent near the Walsall Football Club stadium just before 10.30 am.

Police and ambulance services were called in but there were no reports of any injuries, although the building has been left devastated.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Fire Service said it was not known how the blaze started.

“Our reports indicate that 20 per cent of the building has been affected by fire and 30 per cent by smoke,” he said.

“Emergency services are in attendance along with a fire investigation team.”
