Access in Dudley group gets award

Access in Dudley

ACCESS in Dudley, a voluntary group for the disabled, is celebrating after receiving a £6,149 grant from Awards for All.

Established in 2004, Access in Dudley work with the local authority and companies to encourage them to provide better access to shops, buildings, services and information, not just for disabled people but for all users.

It carries out Park Audits to advise Dudley Council of access problems in local parks and provides Disability Awareness Training to highlight some of the problems faced by disabled people.

With the Awards for All funding, we are setting up a fully accessible web site, purchasing a Braille machine and two laptops.

This will enable our group to communicate to disabled people of all ages and disabilities throughout the Dudley Borough; providing details of accessible activities, services, buildings and other useful information.

Councillor Colin Banks, Dudley Council's champion for people with physical and sensory disabilities said: "We work very closely with Access in Dudley who help us in making sure everyone has access to buildings, parks and other facilities across Dudley.

"We are delighted they have been awarded this money and hope it will help them to continue their excellent work."

Access in Dudley hold meetings once a month. You can find out more or join us by contacting Tina Boothroyd at PO Box 12551, Halesowen. B62 2AR, telephone number 01384 569505, or email accessindudley@blueyonder.co.uk
