Swine-flu cases top the 1,500 mark in West Midlands
CONFIRMED cases of swine flu in the West Midlands have broken through the 1,500 mark, public health chiefs revealed.
The Health Protection Agency said there had been an extra 158 patients surfacing with the H1N1 virus in the 24 hours before yesterday afternoon.
The situation has reached “outbreak management” level in the West Midlands and figures have shot up by 50 per cent in the past five days. Case numbers were only at 1,006 on Sunday but have now reached 1,516.
There are 4,250 confirmed cases of swine flu in the UK.
Dr Rashmi Shukla, regional director of public health, urged people who suspect they have swine flu to remain at home, stay away from their GP surgery or A&E and telephone NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.
