Police had today sealed off Salop Road, in Oldbury, with tape as they carried out a full search of the area. The first emergency calls were made at 1.20am.
Officers sealed off the road while forensic officers carried out an extensive search in a bid to find evidence, such as spent shell casings from bullets.
As the Birmingham Mail went to press, there were no reports of any injuries.
Police are trying to trace a silver vehicle which was seen in the area around the time of the incident.
Dave Rawlings, aged 38, from Salop Road, said: “Every area has a bit that’s got a bad reputation and we do have problems round here, but I’ve never heard anything like this.”
