Conservatives give handouts to charities for the elderly

The Conservatives are to give cash handouts to pensioners’ groups, they revealed at their conference in Birmingham.

Older People’s Champions Grants will be available for amounts between £5,000 and £25,000.

They will be given out to applications from the voluntary sector and charities who work with the elderly.

Money will be awarded to projects which support vulnerable older people and any organisation which involves OAPs.

The money comes from the Fresh Hope Trust, set up by Lord Feldman and Dr Philip Brown.

Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Chris Grayling, said: “In our visits around the country Shadow ministers have been particularly struck by both the amazing work of various voluntary organisations working with the elderly and their crucial need for extra finance.”

Applications will be considered by the Trust and successful ones given out in awards by David Cameron during a reception at the House of Commons next spring.

Any group which wants to apply should write to: Older People’s Champion Grants, c/o the Lord Feldman, 41 St James’s Place, London, SW1A 1NS.
