The quality of refreshments at top tourist attractions is giving visitors much food for thought, it was disclosed today.

Only 29% of those who ate at leading visitor sites believed there was a good choice of food, a survey by Which? Holiday magazine found.

Also, 58% believed the food on offer was not very healthy, while half said they usually took their own food.

The magazine conducted inspections at eight top attractions between April 21 and May 16 this year.

These were the findings:

* TATE MODERN, LONDON: All three eating outlets appeared to have made a real effort to offer a wide choice of healthy food;

* YORK MINSTER - Very difficult to choose a healthy lunch from the main menu at the Minster’s restaurant and not possible at all to choose a healthy alternative from the cafe menu;

* ALTON TOWERS, STAFFORDSHIRE - We were delighted to see such a positive approach towards promoting and providing health food choices at a popular theme park;

* BLACKPOOL PLEASURE BEACH - With limited health choices available, there is considerable opportunity to provide a wider selection of healthier eating outlets;

* THE EDEN PROJECT, CORNWALL - Makes good use of fresh Cornish produce, but it is not easy
