Nurse is 'severely traumatised'

A nurse found alive in the boot of her car after having been missing for 11 days is "severely traumatised" police said.

Magdeline Makola was discovered inside her own Vauxhall Astra car in Airdrie, north Lanarkshire, on Friday afternoon.

Detectives have interviewed the South African-born heart nurse from her bed at Monklands Hospital in Lanarkshire and are understood to be looking for a man in connection with her disappearance.

An appeal for information was launched, but the circumstances surrounding how Ms Makola came to be in the car and how long she was in the vehicle remain unclear.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "She is severely traumatised."

NHS Lanarkshire said Ms Makola was in a "stable and comfortable" condition.

Ms Makola, from Howden in Livingston, West Lothian, had not been seen since she left work at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Monday, December 15.

Concerns were initially raised when she failed to turn up for work on December 18.

Police searched her home and found her work bag ready with her uniform and a packed lunch. Her passport and bank cards were in the house, but her car was missing.

Officers believe that the car had been driven in the Chapelhall area of Airdrie and Glasgow city centre.
