Driver charged over car stab death
The driver of a car in which a mother-of-two was found stabbed to death in the front passenger seat has been charged with her murder.
Alan Entwistle, 52, is accused of killing Claire Atkinson, 31, who was stabbed several times in the chest prior to a road crash in Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire, on April 17.
Miss Atkinson's former partner, Entwistle, was arrested at the scene of the incident after the Hyundai vehicle hit a Land Rover Discovery.
Police were called to the scene by paramedics and it was quickly established that her injuries were not caused by the impact of the collision.
A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death was multiple stab wounds.
Following her death, Miss Atkinson's parents Grenville, 55, and Kath, 52, said they were "completely devastated" at the loss of their "precious and beautiful daughter".
They said she loved her life with her sons, Harvey, nine and Euan, seven.
Entwistle, of Custom House Lane, Fleetwood, Lancashire, will appear before Blackpool Magistrates' Court.
