Swine flu holiday hell

Thousands of holidaymakers with trips booked to flu-hit Mexico face uncertainty over their travel plans.

The UK's major tour operators have cancelled holiday flights to the country for the coming week while officials deal with the outbreak of swine flu.

And while First Choice is offering those with trips booked between May 9 - 22 a different holiday at no extra cost, the operator said costs for changing holidays booked later are still under review.

A spokeswoman for the firm has asked customers to be patient while it reviews the situation.

She said: "People have to appreciate it is going to take time for things to fall into place.

"The priority is dealing with customers in the first few weeks."

The decision of the major tour operators to suspend their Mexican operations came after the Foreign Office advised against all but essential travel to the crisis-hit Central American country.
