Four more swine flu cases confirmed

Four new cases of swine flu have been diagnosed in England, bringing the total number of UK cases to 32, the Department of Health (DH) has said.

Those newly diagnosed are all adults and are spread across England, in the North West, East, East Midlands and West Midlands.

A spokeswoman for the DH said: "Four new cases of swine flu have been confirmed in England. The new cases are all adults associated with travel to Mexico."

She added: "There are now 32 confirmed cases in the UK - 28 in England and four in Scotland.

"It is right that we are preparing for the possibility of a global pandemic.

"The UK's arrangements are continuing to ensure that we are well-placed to deal with this new infection."

All four people diagnosed today have recently returned from Mexico, said the Health Protection Agency.

A spokeswoman said the agency "is working to ensure that any close contacts of these cases are offered antivirals as a precautionary measure".

Laboratory tests are currently being carried out on 390 other people who may have the H1N1 virus, the HPA said in a statement.
