British soldier dies in Afghanistan
A British soldier from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, has been killed in southern Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defence said the soldier died on Thursday as a result of a gun shot wound suffered during a patrol with the Afghan National Army in the vicinity of Woqab, close to Musa Qal'eh, in Helmand Province.
The soldier is the 154th member of British service personnel killed in Afghanistan since the start of operations in October 2001.
The soldier was taking part in a routine "reassurance" patrol, said an MoD spokesman.
Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: "This is another tragic situation where we all feel this great loss.
"Words mean very little in this extremely sad situation but our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this brave soldier.
"Their pain is our pain and as the years go by we will mourn the loss of this true British hero."
Brigadier-General Richard Blanchette, spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force, said: "On behalf of ISAF, I offer our condolences to the family and friends of our fallen soldier.
"A sustaining strength in these times of grief comes from the certainty that the fight against the insurgency brings hope of peace to the people of Afghanistan."
