UK manhunt for Paris murder suspect

A businessman suspected of beating his girlfriend to death at a luxury Paris hotel is still at large as a police hunt continues in the UK.

Cheshire officers have recovered the black Porsche 911 allegedly used by Ian Griffin to flee the Hotel Le Bristol.

The body of wealthy businesswoman Kinga Legg was found by a maid "battered and bruised" in the bathroom of the couple's suite.

The discovery of the car on Saturday, at an unidentified address in Warrington - the town in which Mr Griffin grew up, increased fears that he may have taken his own life.

The 39-year-old tycoon, who once worked as a male model, left the Bristol, on the Rue du Faubourg Saint Honore, on Tuesday. It emerged on Friday that police in Cheshire and Surrey, where the couple rented a home, were searching locations connected to the couple.

Sources said Cheshire Police were confident it was Mr Griffin who brought the vehicle back to the UK. Detectives are keeping an open mind about his intentions after abandoning the car.

They are also taking urgent steps to gain details of any recent financial transactions or cash withdrawals from accounts held by Mr Griffin and Miss Legg.

Polish-born Miss Legg, 36, died from internal bleeding after being attacked at the £1,000-a-night hotel. She had checked in alone on Monday and was joined by Mr Griffin a short time later. The room was spattered with blood and furniture was smashed, with clear evidence of a struggle, police said.

The couple are understood to have been in a relationship for three years. Mr Griffin built a string of businesses including tanning salons and gadget shops across north-west England. But it has been reported the business floundered and he was declared bankrupt in 2006.

Miss Legg ran a company called Vegex, which supplies tomatoes to British supermarkets and has a base in Surrey and in her home town in Poland, Opatowek.
