Tributes to mum-to-be stab victim

Friends of a mother-to-be who was stabbed to death in a "completely random" attack said that she was "one of the greatest people anyone would want to meet".

Claire Wilson, 22, died after she was attacked by a stranger in the street near the centre of Grimsby, in north-east Lincolnshire, on Sunday afternoon.

A 53-year-old man was later arrested.

Friends from the Pizza Hut restaurant where she worked in the town laid flowers at the scene.

Dave Stembridge, 18, said: "She just didn't deserve it. She was one of the greatest people anyone would want to meet. She was just amazing. She's going to be missed so much. It's just not fair."

Lara Cole, 16, said Miss Wilson was seven months pregnant with what would have been her first baby. She said she knew it was going to be a girl and Miss Wilson and her boyfriend Adam were excited about the birth.

"She was lovely," Lara said. "She was really funny. She always put a smile on everyone's face. It's really sad."

People working in businesses around the scene said the suspect casually walked away from the incident "as cool as a cucumber" and just shrugged his shoulders when he was confronted.

On Sunday, Detective Superintendent Christine Kelk, of Humberside Police, confirmed that a 53-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, which happened shortly before 4pm.

Ms Kelk said: "The tragic thing about this is that it was completely random. She was walking to work locally on her own at the time. It would appear that she has been followed by the man, who then stabs her in the back with a knife."
