Briton acquitted over baby's death

A British tourist has been acquitted of killing her newborn son in a Greek resort hotel after spending 11 months in pre-trial custody.

A defence lawyer said Londoner Leah Andrews will be released from custody and return to Britain later this week.

She was found not guilty of infanticide at a court in the Cretan town of Rethymno.

The 21-year-old was arrested last July after giving birth alone in her Cretan hotel to a boy who was later found dead.

She was detained and charged after a coroner said the baby had been born alive and died of suffocation.

Lawyer Zoe Lama said her client and her family were "very pleased with the decision".
