Kercher killer launches appeal bid
An Ivory Coast man convicted of killing British student Meredith Kercher has launched his appeal.
Rudy Hermann Guede's appeals process began as the initial trial implicating the victim's American roommate, Amanda Knox, continues.
Guede was convicted in a fast-track trial last year of killing Meredith Kercher in her Perugia bedroom.
His lawyer, Valter Biscotti, told reporters outside court: "Today we'll prove Rudy Guede's innocence."
Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are also being tried for the killing. They deny wrongdoing, and a verdict in their trial is expected next month.
Prosecutors say Ms Kercher was killed on November 1, 2007, during what began as a sex game.
