TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a baby, police said today.

A 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were held by detectives investigating the death of a 10-month-old girl in Ottery St Mary, Devon, last month.

The child, who has not been identified, was admitted to hospital on Boxing Day night but died on December 29.

The man was previously arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm but was rearrested on suspicion of murder.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: "A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

"She was later released on police bail until July 17.

"The man arrested previously has been rearrested on suspicion of murder and has also been released on police bail until July 17.

"The investigation is now being conducted by officers from the major crime team."
