BITTERLY cold weather sweeping Britain will leave a light dusting of snow across the country at the weekend, forecasters have said.
The cold snap has seen daytime temperatures plummet four or five degrees lower than average for February - traditionally the coldest month of the year.
The chill will mean that rain which could have come on Saturday and Sunday is now expected to fall as snow.

The mercury - which hovered between 1C-4C today - is forecast to drop considerably tomorrow with some areas remaining below freezing throughout the day.
Sally Webb, forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said most parts of the UK are expected to see wintery showers over the weekend.
"It will be a lot colder tomorrow across the country," she added.
"We are being influenced by easterly winds coming off the continent and it is very cold over Europe at the moment.
"There is currently a high pressure system over the UK which is causing it to be very sunny but because there is no cloud cover, the temperatures drop a lot and it gets very cold.
"At the weekend, it's looking to stay quite chilly and we are forecasting snow across most areas."
