Post Office petition handed in to Gordon Brown in Downing Street

MAGGIE Throup, Solihull’s Conservative Parliamentary spokeswoman, delivered a 5,000 name plus petition to ‘Keep Solihull’s Post Offices Open’ to Number 10 Downing Street, yesterday.

Mrs Throup was accompanied by threatened Catherine-de-Barnes sub postmaster Gareth Thomas and Caroline Spelman, MP for Meriden who handed over a petition on behalf of Berkswell Post Office in her constituency.

Mrs Throup said: “We are taking our fight all the way to the top.

The ultimatum to close up to 2,500 post offices came from the Government so our plea today is directly to the Prime Minister to ‘think again’.

“He has done so many U-turns on

unpopular policy recently, we are asking for just one more.”
