Nurse is carjacked by thugs at Solihull Hospital

“Luckily she wasn’t hurt but it was a terrifying experience and it’s not the sort of thing you expect in a hospital car park in broad daylight.”

Phil Chambers, lead security management specialist, said: “We take the safety and security of all our patients and staff very seriously.

“Solihull Hospital has a dedicated security team on site, with fully trained security officers regularly patrolling both inside and outside the Hospital. CCTV systems are also in place.

“The Hospital’s security team is working closely with the Police to investigate this incident. Our investigation will include a review of existing security systems and procedures.”

According to research by insurers, the VW Golf is a popular target for thieves and is one of the most stolen vehicles in the country.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Officers are investigating a robbery in which thieves drove off in a woman’s car outside Solihull Hospital on Tuesday.

“Two men, wearing balaclavas, approached the 51-year-old as she was getting into her car at 4pm. They demanded her keys and drove off in the black VW Golf.

“Enquiries are continuing.”

Police at Solihull are investigating and urged anyone with information to contact them on 0845 113 5000 or the anonymous Crimestoppers hoptline on 0800 555111.
