1. Arrests made after Birmingham City v Millwall game

A DOZEN arrests were made yesterday as Birmingham City beat Millwall at St Andrew’s.

But West Midlands Police said the game passed largely without incident.

A police spokesman revealed that six Millwall and six home supporters were arrested for public disorder and alcohol-related offences before, during and after the match at St Andrew’s, which Birmingham City won 3-0.

2. Tributes pour in for Solihull road death teenager

A MOUNTAIN of floral tributes has been left at the side of a road where a 14-year-old schoolboy was fatally injured.

Shane Jeavons, had been with pals when he was in collision with a blue Audi on Lode Lane in Solihull.

The Lode Heath Secondary School pupil suffered a head injury in the accident on Friday at 9.50pm.

 

3. 40 per cent of taxi drivers stopped in car safety clampdown face prosecution

A CLAMPDOWN on taxis in Birmingham saw 89 vehicles pulled over and subjected to a spot check – with more than 40 per cent facing prosecution.

Four vehicles were taken off the road immediately for having faults that would fail an MOT and seven drivers had their licences suspended on the spot due to the state of their cars.

In addition one driver is being prosecuted for showing an aggressive attitude when asked to comply with the enforcement operation on Broad Street on Friday night.

4. National Express boss quits

THE man in charge of 4,500 National Express bus drivers has left the Birmingham group “for personal reasons” after less than a year at the helm.

Dave Kaye, managing director of the transport giant’s UK bus business, which delivers 75 per cent of the region’s bus service, was appointed to his position only last November.

National Express staff have been told that Mr Kaye, aged 47, had resigned with immediate effect.

5. Birmingham hero soldier wrongly accused of rape tells of his ordeal

A HERO soldier wrongly accused of rape has told of his ordeal to clear his name – after spending seven months behind bars on remand.

Private Sean Spooner, who serves with 2 Mercian regiment, has called for the legal system to be changed after he was charged with raping an 18-year-old he met through Facebook and forced to wait for his trial in prison.

The 21-year-old soldier, of Lakey Lane, Yardley Wood, was cleared by a jury at Warwick Crown Court in just one hour and six minutes.
