One of the fashion capitals of the world, Milan the second biggest city in Italy also offers fantastic fashion, opulent opera, ancient art and a heady and vibrant nightlife. Although its widely considered to be a very modern Italian city, Milan still has many historical sites and a wealth of art galleries and museums on offer.

Milan is viewed as one of the international capitals of modern and industrial design and its influence can be felt throughout the world. Milan hosts the FieraMilano, Europes largest and most prestigious furniture and design fair. In 2009 the Global Language Monitor declared Milan the top media global capital of fashion. Its home to the world-renowned fashion design school, the Istituto Marangoni, as well as the headquarters of fashion houses such as Valentino, Dolce & Gabanna, Gucci, Armani, Versace and Prada. The city hosts the Milan Fashion Week twice a year and its main fashion district is the Quadrilatero Della Moda well worth a visit.

In addition to its sumptuous and unique local cuisine (rice is used more frequently than pasta), Milan boasts several world-renowned restaurants and cafes including the chic Nobu Japanese restaurant in the trendy Armani World on Via Manzoni. Located near the Teatro alla Scala, Caffe Cova an ancient Milanese coffeehouse is one of the citys chicest cafes.

The city of Milan boasts many historical attractions. Visit Milan Cathedral, a breathtaking site. The divine structure took 500 years to build and is the fourth largest Cathedral in the world. Climb the stairs to the roof and to view the gargoyles and statues up close, or gaze out at the vast views of the beautiful city below. A trip to Milan is never complete with a trip to Santa Maria delle Grazie the ancient monastery that houses the incredible Last Supper painting by Leonardo da Vinci measuring 15 by 29 feet covering an end wall of the dining hall. Other historic sites in Milan include one of the most famous Opera Houses in the world the stunning La Scala Theatre.

Milan has subtropical climate where hot, humid and very sultry summers contrast to the cold and wet winters. Temperatures in the summer months average at 77-85F.
