Play gives kids food for thought

YOUNGSTERS were treated to a play to learn about healthy eating in a fun way.

Alfie and Molly's Picnic Adventure was performed at St Peter & St Paul's Catholic Primary School in Lichfield.

More than 100 primary school pupils watched the play, which was acted out by drama pupils at the city's Friary School.

The play followed the adventures of Alfie and Mollie as they battle against Chocolate Bob, who tried to tempt the duo into bad eating habits.

The Lichfield Garrick created the script, with expert advice from Lichfield Council's environmental health team, who worked with the teens to make sure the hygienic and healthy message was spot on.

Lichfield's community, housing and health chief Coun Val Richards said: "Eating healthy food and knowing how to prepare food so you don't give someone food poisoning is really important.

"The children's reaction to the first play was brilliant and I am sure they know much more about food safety."

Friary's drama head Theresa Craig said: "Taking part in this project was a great way for students to gain valuable experience in front of an audience. We're looking forward to taking the healthy eating message to other primary schools across the district."
