Facing the wall to raise cash

INTREPID police officers will be scaling the heights to raise cash for a national charity.

A team of eight from Staffordshire Police's Chase Pro-active Unit will be climbing the wall of a purpose built rock climbing centre in Wolverhampton later this month.

Their aim is to raise as much money as they can for the Child Victims of Crime charity.

The officers chose to raise money for this cause after a 13-year-old autistic boy, from Hednesford, was presented with an XBox 360 from the charity.

DC Andy Smith, of Chase Division, said: "Last year, this young man had his X-Box 360 stolen and although his parents bought a replacement console, this was also taken and his parents couldn't afford to buy a third.

"In November, officers seized two XBox 360 computers during a search warrant in the division but they did not belong to the teenager.

"The charity gave money to buy a new console and due to that kindness we wanted to put something back."

The officers will be taking on their challenge on February 28 at the Wolf Mountain Indoor Rock Climbing centre in Wolverhampton where they will be climbing the equivalent of Ben Nevis -reaching 1344 metres.
