Bug traces stolen Mercedes

STAFFORDSHIRE police have hailed a tracking device which allowed them to recover a stolen car and arrest two men.

A blue Mercedes ML270 was one of six cars, worth a total of £50,000 that were reported stolen from Wombourne Car Centre on the enterprise park on February 7.

But the Mercedes contained a Tracker vehicle location device which was activated, enabling officers to locate it to an industrial unit in Bilston, Wolverhampton.

Following the seizure, two men, aged 52 and 27, were both arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

They have since been released on bail without charge and police investigations continue PC Simon Bridgwater, of Wombourne police, carried out the initial checks using the system and praised it for helping them seize the car. He said: "The speed in which the Mercedes was found would not have been achieved so quickly without the assistance of Tracker.

"I would like to pass on thanks and appreciation on behalf of Staffordshire Police to Tracker for the prompt and professional assistance received which led to the seizure of this vehicle."

Stuart Chapman, senior police relationships manager for Tracker UK, said: "We are delighted this has lead to a successful and early conclusion."
