Golden time for the Chase

A COUNCIL has launched an appeal for people celebrating their 50th birthday to help mark the golden anniversary of a beauty spot.

Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) will reach the landmark age on September 16 this year.

And now the AONB team is looking for 50 semi-centenarians to join in the celebrations.

Assistant AONB officer Emma Beaman said: "It's been 50 years since Cannock Chase was declared officially on of Britain's most beautiful places.

"It's just the most amazing wildlife rich environment packed with fascinating history and brimming with fresh air. It's just a great place for all the family.

"The AONB status has meant special protection for this wonderful natural haven, and the creation of a special team to care for this unique environment for the benefit of wildlife and people.

"Our 50th birthday is a real milestone and who better to help us make a fuss than those who share a birthday with the AONB.

"If it's your 50th birthday this year give me a call. We want to make your birthday really special by multiplying the effect 50 times.

"Cannock Chase is all about sharing and we want to share your birthday with a celebration of all that makes Staffordshire such a special place. Let's make it a year to remember for another 50 years."
