Hunt will support a treasured event

RESIDENTS are being urged to go on a treasure hunt to support a drama event next year.

Lichfield Mysteries annual treasure hunt will take place on May 3 with teams battling to win the prize of a dinner for four at the George Hotel.

Anyone can enter, for a team fee of £7.50, which will go to support the next performance of the Mysteries in 2009.

Those interested in taking part in the treasure hunt should gather at the corner of Market Street and Bird Street at 2pm. It's expected the hunt will take up to two hours.

Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant said: "The Mysteries is now established as an important part of the community and cultural life of the city.

"It's marvellous that it is available free to participants and spectators alike. I hope lots of Lichfield people will join in the treasure hunt and support the Mysteries."

Mysteries board chairman, Polly Dixon, said: "The Lichfield Mysteries is one of the largest community arts events in Europe.

"We don't charge for taking part or for watching because we want as many people as possible to enjoy the Mysteries experience.

"However, this means we are reliant on the generosity of firms and individuals to fund the costs of production.

The treasure hunt is an important part of our money-raising effort."
