OAP killed in car smash

A MIDLAND pensioner died at the wheel after his car careered off the road and ploughed into a wall.

The 74-year-old man was driving his red Kia Picanto along Ling Road, in Huntington, Cannock, when the crash happened at 10.40am yesterday.

Paramedics were alerted but there was nothing they could do to save the driver, who lived in Cannock.

Staffordshire Police are investigating the accident, near the entrance to Cavan's Wood Caravan Park, but officers said they have no idea what caused the car to swerve off the road.

Police are urging witnesses to contact PC Ian Hubbard on 08453 302010.
