Air ambulance staff on snake bite mercy dash

AIR ambulance staff made a mercy dash to London for antivenom after a woman was bitten by an adder in the Midlands.

The woman, from Stafford, was taken to casualty at Stafford Hospital after she was bitten by the snake while walking in the Milford Common area of Cannock Chase on July 28.

Despite a national shortage of antivenom for the snake, medics were able to locate some at Guy’s Hospital in London, and sent the County Air Ambulance to collect it.

The medication was couriered across London and the team picked it up from a rendevouz point and had it back to Stafford within an hour and 45 minutes.
