Midland Apprentice star Kate Walsh in final
“Unfortunately you put yourself up for these kind of shows and you have to put yourself up to be put down.
“I am disappointed with the way the press have reacted with me. I was on there to enhance my career and not to be media fodder, which is what I’ve become. But I will put it right and watch this space. I will come back.”
She added: “We are normal people going into this process who’ve got absolutely no media training whatsoever.”
McQuillan said of his jovial image: “Maybe I did go a bit overboard on the humour side but I can’t apple crumble too much.”
Barr, 24, revealed a softer side to her character, saying she had learnt on the show to take tellings-off “go home, have a cry and come back the next day and get on with my life”.
She said she had taken negative criticism and turned it into something positive to change her behaviour.
Barr added: “Kate and Lorraine were my two closest friends and they never betrayed the things I said in the house and they never betrayed my trust.”
She found it “hurtful” that some people might see her as a bitch, saying: “I’m a soft soul at heart”.
She said her brother told her about different caricatures for people in the show and added: “Unfortunately, you’re the Darth Vader of the competition but just go with it.”
Barr insisted: “In real life I’m a normal girl.”
She said the public had been “lovely” adding: “I think people can see through that.”
The three fired candidates all praised the two finalists.
Barr said both were “amazing and very, very talented”, adding: “If Sir Alan Sugar didn’t hire Kate it would be the second biggest mistake of his life after the first one being not putting me in the final.”
Tighe added: “I would personally like Kate to win. However, on this occasion, I think the title should go to Yasmina. She’s pretty sharp, she’s pretty good.”
McQuillan said: “I think he’s definitely picked the right two for the final. I think I can see Yasmina nicking it though just ‘cos I think she’s more what he’s after, which is someone who’s a bit of a bigger risk taker and more cavalier.”
The final episode of The Apprentice is on Sunday at 9pm on BBC1.
