City fire croc shock

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a routine garden fire in Birmingham today - to be confronted by a CROCODILE!

The metre-long croc stared out at them from beneath the television in the lounge of a home in Willetts Road, West Heath.

Stunned firefighter Paul Smith said: "It was a shock to be greeted by a crocodile - but at least it was in a cage."

"We were surprised but we were able to extinguish the fire fairly routinely."

Northfield firecrews were called to the address at 7am by builders who saw smoke pouring from the back garden.

They easily dealt with the fire, and kept a wary eye on the crocodile until leaving the property. The occupants were not immediately available for comment.
