Vicky has sights on Euro title

SHE'S only 14 but is already starring on a city stage and is now preparing to compete to represent the UK with her own song in Junior Eurovision.

Vicky Gordon, a pupil at Polesworth High School, Tamworth, will battle it out against seven other young hopefuls in a live TV screening next month.

The teenager, who penned the tune Groovy Chick for the contest, said: “I’m really excited and can’t wait to take part in this.

“Singing and acting is all I do non-stop, they’re my hobbies.

“My friends and family are all really supportive and I couldn’t live without my mum. She takes me everywhere and is so proud of me.”

Vicky, who is a principal dancer in the Alexandra Theatre’s production of Summer Holiday, described her song as sounding like something from the Austin Powers’ movies.

She added: “It’s a modern 60s song and I started writing it just before last year’s show.

“I was meaning to enter it for last year, but it wasn’t ready and I decided to get it perfect for this year.

“I’ve watched Eurovision ever since I can remember it and when the junior version came out I couldn’t wait to have a go at it.”

• Vicky will take part in the national finals on Saturday and the programme will be shown on ITV 2, at 6.15pm.
