Homes plan for factory site

MORE than 100 homes are to be built in a £17 million flagship scheme to breathe fresh life into one of West Bromwich's best-known factory sites.

George Wimpey West Midlands has been granted planning permission to build 125 homes on the old Sandwell Castings site in Bank Street.

Wesley Gardens is a prestige development that will consist of 48 two-bedroom designer apartments, 10 four-bedroom houses, 65 three-bedroom semi-detached and mews homes plus two one-off designs.

Sandwell Castings closed its gates in 2004 after it was hit by financial difficulties and went into administration, but no buyers could be found.

George Wimpey sales and marketing director, Roger Northam, said: "What we've proposed for this premium site are new homes of distinction that will really add to the appeal and image of their surroundings.

"The emphasis is on flexible, modern living and market research reveals a demand and need for such properties in what is an up-and-coming area.

"Expanding families, young professionals, those looking to get their first foot on the property ladder, as well as investors looking for a good return, will all be catered for at this flagship development.

"Wesley Gardens will build on our previous Wesley Park development nearby and continue the goodwill and long standing tradition of George Wimpey West Midlands in West Bromwich and the surrounding area."

He added: "The development is to be flanked by public open space, while the locality is very self-contained and provides numerous facilities."

Work will begin shortly and provisional starting prices including three bedroom homes from just £149,0995 and four bedroom homes from around £210,000.
