Lecturer probed in affair allegations

Nigel Green

A LECTURER has been suspended from a Birmingham college while it probes an alleged relationship with a female student.

Nigel Green was today at home in Abbots Road, Kings Heath, instead of teaching English to sixth-formers, but the college principal denied rumours the suspension was because of an affair.

David Igoe, head of Cadbury Sixth Form College, in Downland Close, Kings Norton, said: "He has not been having an affair.

"Things have come to light which have to be investigated and the investigation will be carried out as quickly as possible. It will remain an internal matter within the college."

A college insider said the married father-of-two was suspended over allegations he had been involved with a student in her first year of A-levels.

He said the pair were caught on camera together by another student who took pictures of them.

Speaking from his home, Mr Green told the Birmingham Mail: "I'm not allowed to comment."

Mr Igoe, head of the college which has 1,500 students aged 15 to 19, added: "We have a duty to look at any allegation or incident. We have to take it seriously.

"There is an internal investigation going on but there is no substance to it as yet. Nothing has been found or not found. Whatever the outcome is, this is a very minor affair, a very small thing in the life of the institution."

The hearing is yet to be held in the case of Mr Green.
