Runners rake it in for charity

HUNDREDS of people pulled on their running gear to bring in a bumper windfall for cancer research.

Sandwell Valley Country Park was the venue for Race 4 Life and Run for Moore events yesterday which raised thousands of pounds.

It was the sixth year the women-only Race 4 Life has been held at Sandwell Valley and up to 2,500 runners turned out in the morning.

It was the turn of the men in the afternoon as hundreds tacked the same 5km course in Run for Moore, set up by the widow of England's 1966 World Cup-winning skipper Bobby Moore, who died from bowel cancer.

Stephanie Moore, MBE, started the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK in 1993 after the death of her husband.

The Mayor of Sandwell, Coun Sadie Smith, welcomed the female runners in the morning and started the race.
