Biker dies after motorway collision

POLICE are seeking witnesses to an accident in which a 52-year-old motorcyclist from Droitwich died on the M27 motorway.

At 11am on Sunday, the man was riding towards Fareham and as he approached junction 9, his motorcycle collided with the BMW car in front of it. The 52-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

His pillion passenger, a woman also from Droitwich, was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment to injuries including a fractured wrist. The BMW driver was not injured.

PC Christopher Loynes of Cosham Roads Policing Unit said: "The pillion passenger's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, but tragically a man lost his life in this collision.

"This incident caused considerable delays to motorists travelling between Southampton and Portsmouth, but the motorway was already quite busy at the time of the collision, so we would like to hear from any witnesses.

"It is essential that we gather as much information as possible in order to establish what events led to this fatal collision."
