Jobs boost as airline increases flights

LOW fares airline Monarch has announced further investment at Birmingham International Airport, creating 50 new jobs.

The Luton-based carrier, which set up its base in Birmingham 14 months ago, said additional services from the West Midlands airport would mean new posts for pilots, cabin crew, ground staff and engineers.

A new service to Ibiza will be launched next summer, while flights from Birmingham to Palma, Murcia and Alicante will double in frequency.

Peter Vella, the airport's business development director, said: "This news is great for Midlands travellers because it will provide more choice at low prices with a reputable brand and all the frills.

"We look forward to welcoming this extra capacity at Birmingham next summer and working with Monarch's fantastic team to give our customers the service and choice they deserve."
