Probe after pair die in house fire

MYSTERY today surrounded the death of two people whose bodies were discovered in a blaze at a Midland house.

Firefighters were called to Loxley Close, in the Church Hill South area of Redditch, shortly after 9.50am yesterday.

As they tackled the blaze, which had broken out in the rear bedroom of the building, they discovered the dead bodies of a man and a woman, lying on the bed.

Alec Mackie, spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We're still trying to establish what happened.

"We don't know whether it was a suicide pact where the couple set themselves alight deliberately or whether it was a pure accident."

Forensic teams and fire investigators were today at the scene.

Police, who have not yet identified the couple, are treating their deaths as "unexplained".

Ten firefighters and two fire engines from Redditch were called to the house.
